Malaysia Visa & Pass Options
Malaysia has different immigration pathways depending on why you want to be in the country, how long you plan to stay, whether you will work or study, and your family or financial circumstances. This page is a starting point for understanding the main categories—not a substitute for immigration advice or an application decision by Malaysian authorities.

Common pathways to explore
Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)
MM2H is a Malaysian residency program for eligible foreign participants. The program has defined categories, financial requirements and other conditions. Requirements can change, so applicants should review the current MOTAC guidance and work with an appropriately licensed MM2H operator when required.
Employment Pass
The Employment Pass is used for expatriates whose employment in Malaysia has been approved through the relevant Malaysian process. The appropriate category and requirements depend on the employment arrangement and current policy.
DE Rantau Digital Nomad Pass
Malaysia’s DE Rantau program provides a pathway for eligible digital professionals and remote workers. MDEC publishes current eligibility and application information, including updates affecting processing.
Student Pass
International students studying at approved Malaysian institutions generally use the Student Pass process. Education Malaysia/EMGS provides the application pathway and current requirements.
Long-Term Social Visit Pass and family-related pathways
Family relationships and other qualifying circumstances can create different long-term stay options. Malaysian Immigration publishes requirements for Long-Term Social Visit Passes and related categories.
Other professional, business and investor pathways
Malaysia also has other passes and programs for specific professional, business, investment and visit circumstances. The correct pathway depends on the applicant’s facts and the current rules.
